Nathan Turczan builds instruments for exploring musical harmony as interactive space. His work spans algorithmic composition, generative audio systems, and networked performance tools—designed for composers, performers, and therapeutic contexts.
He is the creator of Scale Navigator (a suite of harmonic exploration tools), co-developer of SNaPS (a SuperCollider generative particle system with Nathan Ho), and CTO of Chordas Collective. His procedurally generated album "To A Wild Rose Growing Throughout the Multiverse" (2020) algorithmically remixes Edward MacDowell across 14 tracks using neighboring scale transpositions.
Recent work includes sound for Sia and David OReilly's SOULS NFT project, spectral orchestrations of Florida airboat recordings, and networked ensemble instruments for real-time harmonic improvisation.
Currently developing: harmonic gravity frameworks integrating Boyd position theory, Tymoczko's quadruple hierarchy, Romanesca patterns, and idiomatic progression chains from Reger, Messiaen, and Hindemith.
